What is Maya Abdominal and Uterine Therapy

Maya Abdominal and Uterine Therapy is an external non-invasive therapy that strengthens the ligaments and muscles which support the uterus and ovaries in the pelvis.  When organs are not in their optimal position, the flow of blood, lymph, nerves, and energy (qi) is constricted.  Many emotions, especially anger and fear, tend to get stored in our abdomen and pelvis. This therapy helps to release tension, as well as physical and emotional congestion.  It also opens blocked energy channels in the abdomen and pelvis.

Ancient Maya medicine is grounded in gratitude for the gifts of the earth, to the plants, and to a universal power.  For centuries, the Maya of Central America treated common female conditions using this therapy, realignment techniques, herbal remedies, and prayer.  They encouraged women to have an awareness of their pelvic area and a connection to themselves.  Dr. Rosita Arvigo has lived in Belize for over 30 years. She was an apprentice of Don Elijio Panti, a great Maya Shaman of Belize, Central America, for ten years. Rosita went on to develop this therapy based on Don Elijio’s technique, and years of working with other healers and midwives in massage, herbology, and prayer, as well as her own napratherapy training. I had the opportunity of studying this therapy with Rosita in Belize in 2008. I am now one of a handful of practitioners in Canada who practice this therapy.
